Alta, Utah is a small mountain community located at the head of Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The Town ranges in elevation from 7,500 ft to 9,500 ft. above sea level. The winter annual average of 500 inches of snowfall provides for our world famous deep powder skiing. The summer turns quieter but equally as wonderful. Hiking, climbing and biking provides opportunities to see breathtaking mountains views, wildlife (moose, birds, coyotes, mountain lions) and over 170 varieties of wildflowers. Alta is a very inspiring environment, an ideal place for furthering artistic and educational opportunities.

Alta is composed of creative, active families, seasonal and year round employees, professional athletes, artists, and guests who choose to stay, recreate, or visit in Alta and Little Cottonwood Canyon. The Town of Alta's population can fluctuate between 300 in the summer to 3,000 in the winter season. The majority of our population base is in low to moderate income as determined by HUD standards; many live in small employee quarters and have limited transportation to get to the Salt Lake Valley. The families live in caretaker apartments, condos and single family homes. Our community does extend to the Salt Lake Valley; many who recreate in our town have come to consider Alta as their home.

The Jordan School District (now Canyons Shool District) opened a one room school in Alta in 2002, it is housed at the Goldminer's Daughter Lodge, ranges from K-8th grades with about 17 children.

Ellza Coyle, the 'mother' of Alta Community Enrichment gave the Alta Community Enrichment Endowment its first gift. Here are her reasons.

"I gave because I believe in the spirit of community. I believe Alta Community Enrichment to embody this spirit of joining together and contributing what one is able to contribute to the community at large, be it time, talent or finances. I "founded" ACE innocently enough back in the mid-90's. Along with me several other's contributed their "sweat equity" in response to the need I sensed Alta had to find a larger way to share in it's diversity of community members while acknowledging the love of snow that binds it. The organization has proved itself to be it's own entity with value for all participants be they sponsors, volunteers, audience, to those giving presentations to those employed. It is with great honor I feel to be able to be the first to financially contribute to the newly found Endowment Fund. I do so in hopes that it will assist ACE to have longevity as it continues to grow & shift in response to the changes & needs of the community overall. It is encouraging to know that never has ACE been in the red, always fiscally responsible while putting on over 60 events a year that are for the most part free. I look forward to hearing about ACE's success decades down the line."
